Season's Greetings

Speaking of seasons, we are reaching the end of farmers market season.  Tomorrow, December 23, is the last Broadway Farmers Market until spring.  For the time being, we will only be in the West Seattle Farmers Market after that this winter.  We are looking at some new markets and hoping to return to some of the same markets in 2013.  It is a competitive process, so we shall see.  Stay tuned.

As always, you can also visit one of the coffee shops or stores listed under the tab "Where to Buy Locally" above.

Online Sales NOW LIVE

You can now order Honest Biscuits anytime you want, 24 hours a day, seven days per week.  Of course they will take a few days to get to you, but we have a bunch of choices in our online store right now.  So why not treat yourself to a dozen or send a pack of mini biscuits to your friends and family.

Why are you still reading this?  What are you waiting for???  Operators are not standing by, but our handy online store gadget can handle your every biscuit need, even adding a jar of local jam if you want.

If you are local to Seattle, we will give you a dozen Butterhole biscuits to compensate you for the shipping costs.  Or just email us your order and we can discuss a small delivery fee.

Happy Birthday

It was one year ago - the Sunday after Thanksgiving - that Honest Biscuits started selling biscuits at the Broadway Farmers Market.

The booths at Broadway and West Seattle look much different now, and we typically offer seven varieties instead of three.  On the other hand, each biscuit is still handmade with care and with the best ingredients we can find in the Seattle area.  We are grateful for each biscuit that is sold.  Of course, some of our friends have gone above and beyond, supporting and helping in many ways.  Some were just customers who liked our biscuits, who have gone out of their way to get the word out (and have become friends in the process).  Some of you showed us the true meaning of friendship as you gave us your ideas, feedback, criticisms, energy, time, and talent.

We promise to keep trying to make the best biscuits possible and grow in a way that will make you proud.  Thank you Seattle.  We love you!

Our Pumpkin Has Chunks!

We present the Great Pumpkin.  Unlike almost everyone else, we do not star with pumpkin puree.  We start with organic Winter Luxury Pumpkins from Local Roots Farms.  We chop them into chunks, season them, and sautee.  The biscuits not very sweet, like a pumpkin pie, but they are loaded with the natural taste of real pumpkins.  Try one for yourself at the Broadway or West Seattle Farmers Markets.

Online Sales

We are still testing our online store.  You may see it on the site, but it is probably not yet working.  We are working on this and plan to have an online store for mail order and local delivery by the end of the week.  Soon you will be able to order gift packs of biscuits with jam, as well as just biscuits to keep and enjoy at home for breakfast, dinner, or at a holiday party.  Stay tuned.

Spectacular Specials

We have introduced three new biscuits in the past week, and we are very excited about it.  The first was the Peach Melba Biscuit, with local organic peaches from Tonnemaker and Raspberries from Skagit Sun.  The second was the Italiano, with fire-roasted red peppers from River Run Farm, fresh organic basil from Local Roots, and two cheeses (mozzarella from Golden Glen and queso fresco from Samish Bay).  It is great coming up with a biscuit that is both delicious, but also sources ingredients from all these great local farms and producers.  The third biscuit has been in our repertoire for a while, but never been sold at market:  the Old School.  We use strawberry jam from Camp Robber (made from local organic strawberries) and organic peanut butter.  Great for kids after school or those of us who are young at heart.

We keep trying to bring you great flavors made from the best local ingredients, and we keep meeting new farmers and producers, opening up new doors and inspiring new ideas.  For instance, the Italiano was inspired by seeing River Run roasting peppers in this steel cage at the West Seattle Farmers Market.  The flames shooting up and the great smell made me want some of these tasty peppers.  That and the classic Caprese inspired the Italiano.  Hope you enjoy them.

New Place to get Honest Biscuits

Honest Biscuits are being sold in a new part of town: the Ravenna and University District area.  Boulevard Grocery, on Ravenna Boulevard, now carries four kinds of Honest Biscuits, including the new Old School Biscuit with peanut butter and local jam.  The place is a great combination of neighborhood market and coffee shop.  Stop by and tell them we sent you.

Comfortable and relaxed environment inside.

And they sell other great things like beer, wine, and local Seven coffee.

Headed South to Renton

We are now selling at the Renton Farmers Market for the rest of the season (except Sept 4 - we are taking that day off).  Find us on the corner of the market (at Burnett and 3rd) each Tuesday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm.

We are excited to be bringing our delicious fresh biscuits to the south end and suburbs each week.  If it goes well, we could be back for the whole season next year.  Come see us on Tuesdays!

Back in West Seattle Again

Yep.  We will be back at the West Seattle Farmers Market this Sunday, (August 12) as a substitute in the middle on the West end of the market.  Now the market has decided to let us stay on through.  So we will be back this Sunday and expect to be there every Sunday until the end of the year.  (and we will still be at Broadway too)

Show Your Honest Biscuits Pride

Feel free to show the world how much you love Honest Biscuits.  We have a shop with Zazzle, featuring t-shirts, coffee mugs, and baby wear.  Look at that panel over to the right and you will see some of the products ---->

Click on the panel to get a better look at the goods.  They are made to order, so they may seem expensive, but if you watch the site (or sign up for emails), they have good sales from time to time.

If you are short of cash, you can always just tell a friend about us.  We would appreciate that just as much.

National Buttermilk Biscuit Day

We have no idea who determines these things, but we will celebrate by working on the next special biscuit recipe.  Only one more week for the MMM Biscuit!

So, we were in Seattle Magazine

Wish there was a way to make this more visually appealing, but I do not know how.  Here is a link to the article

MMM Biscuit

We are introducing a new special flavor this Sunday at the Broadway and West Seattle Markets.  The new special has Mexican influences in honor of Cinco de Mayo and spring.  The MMM Biscuit (Matt's Mexican Madness) features some Mexican spiced local organic apples with Mt Townsend Creamery's Campfire Cheese.  This awesome cheese is a smoked jack cheese.  We through in some cilantro and jalapenos to add just a bit of a kick.

The Honey Biscuit proved to be so popular that we have added it to the regular menu.

Selling for one night at Pike Place Market

We had such a great time at the Arcade Lights event at Pike Place Market.  We sold a bunch of biscuits to a bunch of happy people, and we raised money for a worthy charity, the Market Foundation.  We even received numerous votes for best food vendor at the event.

We were excited to be selling our biscuits filled with Beecher's Flagship Cheese, literally right across the street from where the cheese is actually made!  (you can see Beecher's over our shoulder in the photograph)

Earth Day Party

We are returning to the Broadway Farmers Market this Sunday (April 22).  It is also Earth Day.  We want to have some fun, so we are bringing along friend DeeDee Royalis to help make things more festive.

Celebrating Artisan Food, Beer & Wine

We will be participating in Arcade Lights on April 20 from 6:30 to 10:30 at Pike Place Market.

It is going to be a really fun event.  You buy a ticket and get tokens to spend buying samples of food, drinks, beer, and wine from local Washington producers.  We are proud to be among them!

We look forward to raising money for the Market Foundation and introducing some new people to our tasty biscuits.  If you are interested, tickets are cheaper if you buy them in advance (here).

New Special Flavor

The special flavor last week was a hit, selling out quickly.

So we will be back this week with more Honey Biscuits.  We bake local honey right into the center of a Butterhole biscuit.  Yum!

This is a Fine Weekend for a Kilt

Sunday March 18 will be the last time that you can get a Kilt Biscuit.  It is filled with Market House corned beef, Mt Townsend Creamery Off Kilter Cheese, Pike Brewing Off Kilter Ale, with organic green onions and a hint of horseradish.

Every other week, they have sold out quickly. We are making more, but you still might want to get to the West Seattle Farmers Market early. As every Sunday, we will be there from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Special Biscuit for March

The Kilt:  One of our biscuit's filled with Market House corned beef and Mt Townsend Creamery Off Kilter cheese.  This aged tommette cheese is washed in Pike Brewing Company's Kilt Lifter scotch ale, so we had to add a bit off that ale to the dough as well.  Organic green onions add some flavor and give the biscuit a hint of green.  We add a pinch or two of horseradish as well.  Not enough to clear the sinuses, just enough to boost the flavors.

Sure some of the flavors are Scottish, but the overall inspiration is Irish.  I am Scottish-American, but I love celebrating St. Patrick's Day.  Robert Burns Day is just not the same in America.

They sold out quickly last Sunday.  We will make more this Sunday, but you might want to get there early if you want one.  West Seattle Farmers Market 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

New Tab Above

We feel so fortunate to be getting some attention in the blogosphere.  People are noticing the care (and great local ingredients) we put into our biscuits.  We created a tab (press) to keep track of the mentions.  Feel free to peruse them.  If you know of others we have not seen, please pass a link on to us.

This Sunday or Bust

We will be at the West Seattle Farmers Market this Sunday if we have to hitch a wagon to our dog and strap tennis racquets to our feet for snow shoes.  In other words, no matter what.  Hope to see you between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm for our delayed debut.
